Lady Chatterley's Lover, which has been at the center of various discussions since the day it was published, tells the love between Constance, the young wife of Clifford, who was injured and crippled in the war, and Mellors, the grove guard. Although the novel is interpreted prejudicedly as female betrayal, it is seen that in addition to the husband's physical limitations, he also neglects his wife emotionally, even leading the woman to a pregnancy outside marriage in order to have an heir.

Although the work has been labeled obscene due to a conservative approach, the problem is actually based on class discrimination that cannot accept the love of an aristocratic woman and a working-class man. Moreover, when the oppressive, humiliating and exclusionary approach of the ruling classes towards the working masses was reflected in the novel, which sheds light on the social and political structure of the period, the book was opposed.

The novel does not only advocate physical love. The relationship between Lady Chatterley and Mellors develops slowly and is based on physical passion as well as affection and mutual respect. Lawrence attaches so much importance to the relationship between love and compassion that he even considered naming the book "Tenderness".

Lawrence, who was seen as a porn writer who had wasted his talent because of Lady Chatterley's Lover, was acquitted after his death. EM Forster described him in an article as "the most imaginative novelist of our generation." Critic FR Leavis also prevented Lawrence's literary rights from being violated by placing his works within the accepted "great tradition" of the English novel.
