Can I get off at an available location?
“Can I get off at a convenient place?” I said to the driver. I love this phrase. It is one of the rare expressions that has withstood the cruelty of time. The “at a convenient place…” version did not catch on. Even the younger generations still get off at a convenient place.
This call indicates trust in God. You do not say a specific place, but meet the driver somewhere in the middle, and without knowing whether or not that place is really convenient for you, you get off.
I got off in front of my house, which was a convenient place. When spending the night on a street corner would perhaps be more realistic.
I am homeless even in my own home now.
While gaining acclaim for her stories in which everyone who reads them can find a piece of themselves, Karin Karakaşlı’s first novel Can I Get Off at a Available Place? is an impressive work in which love, separation, and loneliness are woven into its pages like lace.
