A Dead Woman's Abandoned Documents - Book Description in Today's Turkish A Dead Woman's Abandoned Documents is Güzide Sabri's most popular novel. The work, which consists of the diaries left by Fikret to his daughter Nedret, criticizes social value judgments around "disease" and "forbidden love" by centering the experiences of women. To introduce Güzide Sabri, who made an original contribution to our literature with her "melancholic" worldview in the early 20th century, to today's readers, especially in the epidemic age we are going through, to look at emotions such as "disease", "grief", "mourning" and "pain". Güzide Sabri (Aygün) (1883-1946) Güzide Sabri was born in Fındıklı, Istanbul. His father, Salih Reşat Bey, is an officer of the Ministry of Justice. His mother, Nigâr Hanım, was the niece of the poet Koniçeli Kâzım Pasha. Literature, which he received from his teacher Tahir Efendi during the private education he received at home, was his favorite lesson. At the age of sixteen, she will write her first novel, Münevver, which bears traces of her friend's life, and the work will be serialized in Hanımlara Mahsus Gazete, the first and longest-running magazine of the Ottoman women's movement, which embraces women writers of the period. She was married to Beyoğlu First Notary Ahmet Sabri Aygün at an early age. He started writing his second novel, titled Evrak-ı Metrukesi of a Dead Woman, in Bursa, at a time when he was restricted from writing by his wife. When the work is published, it makes a big splash. Thus, he has now become a well-known writer in the literary world. Nedret, the sequel to A Dead Woman's Abandoned Documents, will be his favorite among his works. Along with these three sensational novels, Güzide Sabri also has other works, many of which were filmed, namely Wild Gülü, Hüsran, Gecenin Şarkısı, Hicran Gecesi, Necla, Voice of the Past. She published poems, stories and articles under the pen names "Güzide" and "Güzide Osman" in the magazines Hanımlara Mahsus Gazete, Süs, Kadın Dünyası and Çarşamba Mecmuası, and was a productive writer throughout her life. We will continue to include the author's selected works in our Turkish Literature Classics Series. (From the Promotional Bulletin)
