Memories from the House of the Dead
The years of imprisonment in Siberia had a very important place in the life of the Great Russian Novelist Dostoyevsky, who lived between 1821 and 1881. This imprisonment in the Omsk region of Siberia between 1849 and 1854 gave Dostoyevsky a rich source of material as well as the opportunity to closely know, understand and examine the despised and oppressed people. When Dostoyevsky published the memories of these years in the Vremya magazine in 1861-1862 under the name Memories from the House of the Dead, he not only renewed his reputation but also received the praise of Turgenev and Tolstoy. Memories from the House of the Dead, a vivid narrative of a writer's life in prison, is a Dostoyevsky masterpiece that tells the suffering of people who have been excluded from society.
