Önceki Günün Adası
"The Island of the Other Day" is the story of "Roberto de la Grive", who escaped from a sinking ship and went "ashore" on another ship. This story, set in the seventeenth century, reaches us through the letters Roberto wrote to the woman he loved and the notes he kept on the ship. Roberto's memories of his old life during the days he spent on the unemployed ship allow us to evaluate history, society and human relations by reconstructing the politics, love, science and social lives of a period. The story, which has reached us through a three-stage narrative pyramid (Author / Roberto / Narrator who interprets Roberto's letters), gains tension with the presence of an Uninvited Guest who constantly escapes from Roberto by leaving mysterious traces, while at the same time it draws on first-hand historical moments and places. It also creates mutual perspectives between the seventeenth century and the twentieth century through the Narrator. Evaluating the worlds created by Umberto Eco, whom we know from his novels "The Name of the Rose" and "Foucault's Pendulum", previously published by Can Publications, with images / words and his usual mastery, is an insatiable reading pleasure.
