My Name is Red, which Orhan Pamuk calls "my most colorful and optimistic novel", takes place on nine snowy winter days in Istanbul in 1591. When the beautiful Shekure, whose two little sons are constantly in conflict with each other, begins to look for a new husband and lover to replace her husband, who has not returned from the war for four years, she watches from her hiding place the palace muralists that her father calls home one by one.
