Socialism and Nationalism in the Ottoman Empire
The role and share of ethnic and religious "elements" ("anasir") (for whom we did not use the term "minority" until the Treaty of Lausanne) in the birth and development of socialism thoughts and actions during the last quarters of the 19th century and the first quarters of the 20th century in Turkey. Until today, it has remained in the dark in the historiography of both our country and the world. From our perspective, the main reason for this is our lack of knowledge of the Balkan languages, Armenian and Judeo-Spanish. However, the non-Muslim Ottomans pioneered the spread of left-wing ideas and movements, as in almost all Westernization movements. Mete Tunçay, the leading researcher of the history of the left movement in Turkey, two scientists who wrote the newest and most valuable works on our recent history, director of the Turkey Department of the International Institute of Social History in the Netherlands, and faculty member of the Universities of Nijmegen and Amsterdam. Erik Jan Zürcher and Prof. of Indian Muslim origin from Boston University, USA. Together with Feroz Ahmad, he brought together the contributions of the following experts in this book: Prof. Fikret Adanir (Germany-Bochum University), Prof. Paul Dumont (University of Strasbourg, France), Prof, Panayot Noutsos (University of Ioannina, Greece), Dr. ibrahim Yalimov (former Party School director Bulgaria-Sofia) and Dr. Anahide Ter Minassian (France-Paris I -Sorbonne University and CNRS).
