Sufism in Ottoman Society - 18th Century Book Description The number of sheikhs whose activities can be identified in Anatolia in the 18th century is approximately 807. The main sect to which these sheikhs belong is the Halveti order. Naqshbandi, Mevlevi, Qadiri, Celveti, Bektashi, Bayrami, Sadi, Rifai and Bedouin. In this century, branch founder sheikhs such as Nûreddin Cerrâhî, Hasan Sezai, Mehmed Cemâleddin Efendi, Abdullah Salahaddin-i Uşşâki and Ahmed Raûfi were educated. While the present study aims to take a closer look at the sects, which were an important element of social and political life in the 18th century, it also presents a picture of the whole of Anatolia, especially Istanbul, Bursa and Edirne, taken from various fronts. Thanks to this competent work, it will be better seen that the lodges continued to be centers of attraction in the Ottoman Empire, and that the sheikhs, especially those to whom they were affiliated, revived their sects and guided the society in a positive way.
