Age thirty-five! It's half way there. / We are in the middle of life like Dante. / The gem of our young age, / Begging and pleading are futile today, / He leaves without looking at your tears.

Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı's poem "Thirty Five Ages", which begins with these lines, is among the cult poems of Turkish literature. In the words of another master of poetry, Behçet Necatigil: "Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı, who praised the beauty of life and love in his poems, emphasized the superiority of death, and used Turkish with all his sweetness and expressive power, became one of the most read poets of his period and had his own style without being tied to any movement." He developed a poem. His answer to a question about poetry is in this direction: 'Because I believe in the close relationship between poetry and life, I have never thought of poetry as proving an idea (...). This independence required by the structure of poetry can also be explained by the poets' love of freedom. For this reason, it should not be surprising that the first ones to raise the flag of rebellion in oppressive regimes are always poets.'" We present all of Tarancı's poems with the meticulous compilation of valuable critic Asım Bezirci.
