Plato's Republic

How would Plato, one of the great founders of philosophy, write The Republic if he were alive today? Defender of Platonic communism, theater writer and philosopher Alain Badiou gave his own answer to this question by freely translating (in fact, rewriting) The Republic, and the result was an original work that is both classical and modern: The "cave" metaphor was replaced by "cinema", "yes" "Sir" dialogue characters have been replaced by curious young people who ask real questions; The missing female figure is completed with a rebellious young girl; References from all history, especially from today's world, have been added to the references of the classical world. Therefore, we have a Socrates discussing Spinoza and Lacan and expressing his views on the Russian and Chinese Revolutions.

Because we urgently need Plato today, and the reason for this is very clear: It is Plato who gave life to the belief that we must somehow reach the absolute in order to direct our lives in this world."
