Precariat - The New Dangerous Class

Precariat... This "new" word defines a striking facet of the social reality of the new times: Those who work in constantly changing jobs, almost always in a temporary status, in an extremely "flexible" employment regime... Those who work regularly in irregular jobs... This increasingly expanding mass all over the world is called the "working poor." There were also those who described them as "or "precarious workers". Guy Standing points out that in order to diagnose the precariat, it is necessary to take into account their lack of identity: They work in jobs that have no future and "lack social memory"... Guy Standing's book, which is a reference on the phenomenon and concept of the precariat, bears the subtitle "new dangerous class". Many thinkers and social scientists define the precariat as the proletariat of our time. At least, today it is not possible to think about the working class and the proletariat without taking into account the reality and concept of the precariat.

In his book, Standing describes with great clarity the formation, world and contradictions of the precariat phenomenon, which he calls "the child of globalization". It examines the internal divisions of the precariat and the exploitation mechanisms to which it is subject, based on a rich list of examples. This is an analysis that also provides clues for a new labor movement. Guy Standing hits the nail on the head by replacing the outdated terms proletariat and middle class with precariat.
