In the Footsteps of Robert College Book Description The missionary organization, commonly known as the American Board (ABCFM) and founded in Boston in 1810 to operate outside America, entered into a schooling process that rapidly spread from Istanbul to Anatolia, the Middle East and the Balkans in the 1840s. . He made significant contributions to the establishment of American values and the Anglo-American worldview in these geographies. Although most of these schools were officially closed during the Republic of Turkey, this time they pioneered and guided local Turkish schools with the education and training models they have been implementing for years. In addition to Robert College and Arnavutköy American College for Girls (1890-1971), those that were left open, such as the American girls' and boys' schools in Bursa, Tarsus and Izmir, continued to educate the children of our country's elite and wealthy families. In this regard, they trained many men for the active staff needed by the modern Republic in politics, art, bureaucracy and foreign affairs. From these perspectives, American schools constitute one of the most important topics in our Westernization history. This book examines in detail the Bebek Theological Seminary and Robert College, the first examples of the schools opened by the American Board in Istanbul, and the stages that preceded them, in chapters. Thus, it tries to ensure that institutions and practices that seem to be separate from each other are seen as a whole by making references to the past and questioning them within cause-effect relationships.
