Named after its founder, Muhammad b. Seddâdîs, named after Seddâd's father, are a Kurdish state that ruled in Arran and Armenia between 951-1199.
Established during the dissolution of the Abbasid Caliphate, the Saddadids served as a sultan state by creating a buffer zone between the Muslim world and the Christian Georgian and Armenian kingdoms and the non-Muslim peoples north of the Kur River. They were also at the center of the political developments that took place in the geography between the Aras and Kur rivers and in Eastern Armenia, at a time when the Byzantine Empire settled in Armenia in the west and the Seljuk expansion began in the east. In this respect, Seddadids lived between the middle of the 10th century and the 12th century. Due to their dominance that continued until the end of the century, it has an important position in terms of understanding both the medieval Kurdish history and the political history of the Caucasus.
The Saddadids are of great importance for the civilization history of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Turkey, as they started a new era of revival in the social and cultural life of the geography in question and with their architectural structures that have survived to the present day.
