Sosyal Politika Yazıları
Globalization particularly threatens the ability of wealthy states to maintain established social security programs. In the post-1945 period, while factories were operating and people were working in jobs that would last them a lifetime, both employers and welfare states accepted the creation of a generous social security platform. Education was free, most healthcare expenses were covered by the state, pensions were secure, and unemployment insurance worked well. However, it is claimed that all of the achievements of the welfare state in the last twenty years are in crisis. States say that they cannot maintain these guarantees and are trying to cut back on every spending item. Meanwhile, it is observed that the risks faced by individuals are increasing. Flexible employment both increases the rate and duration of unemployment and reduces people's contributions to their pensions. Working people can no longer think that they will stay in the same job for life and retire from there. The insecurity of employment and the liquidation of old sectors by globalization create a growing category of "new poverty". The book you have in your hand consists of texts that can be considered today's classics, which develop or discuss in depth the theories and concepts underlying many of the current social policy debates carried out in such an environment. We think that the fact that these texts have not been translated into Turkish before is both evidence and an important reason for the underdevelopment in the field of social policy in Turkey.
