Stepançikovo Köyü ve Sakinleri
“This is not surprising: Foma Fomiç's ignorance could not have prevented his success in the field of literature.”
In Stepanchikovo Village and Its Residents, one of the two novels written by Dostoyevsky in his "Siberian Period", we encounter a completely different author. In his books of this period, Dostoyevsky wrote mostly about village life and in a semi-humorous style, due to his distance from the big city life he was accustomed to and his fear of censorship. In Stepanchikovo Village and Its Residents, which is a salute to Gogol and published in 1859, a young university student named Sergey tells us the funny and incredible story of Foma Fomiç, a charlatan who took control of his uncle's house.
We present this wonderful novel, which is in many ways a precursor to The Idiot and The Brothers Karamazov, with Ergin Altay's translation from the Russian original and a comprehensive afterword by Dostoyevsky expert Joseph Frank.
