"Perhaps this book will only be understood by someone who has already thought about the thoughts expressed in it - or similar thoughts - himself. - It is not an instructive book, so. If it can give pleasure to just one person who reads it with understanding, it will have achieved its purpose.
The book deals with philosophical problems and, I think, shows that the emergence of these problems as questions is based on a misunderstanding of the logic of our language. The whole meaning of the book can be summed up in a saying like this: Whatever can be said can be said clearly; One should also remain silent about what cannot be talked about.
Thus, the book wants to draw a limit to thinking, or rather – not to thinking, but to the expression of thoughts: Because in order to draw a limit to thinking, we would have to be able to think both sides of this limit (that is, we would have to be able to think what is unthinkable).
The limit, then, can only be drawn within language, and what lies beyond the limit will be sheer absurdity.” – Ludwig Wittgenstein.
The book includes a facsimile of the German text of the Routledge edition of the Tractatus, which was finalized in 1933, and Oruç Aruoba's Turkish translation. This Metis edition is the fourth edition of the book. In addition to the Tractatus, we will also publish Philosophical Investigations, a product of Wittgenstein's later period, in a new Turkish translation in order to provide a symmetrical, comparative reading.
