Wilhelm Tell - Hasan Ali Yücel Classics Book Description Friedrich Schiller (1759-1805): German poet, thinker, historian and playwright. He studied law and medicine. He achieved great success with his first game, Bandits. In the early years of his literary life, he wrote works that harshly criticized the prejudices of German society. In 1789 he was appointed professor of history at the University of Jena. He wrote most of his works on history and aesthetics during this period. After 1794, he became close to Goethe and formed a strong friendship. He shaped German literature together with Goethe, especially with the lyrical poems and plays he wrote during this period. Wilhelm Tell, in which the enthusiastic, rebellious poetry that shook the German youth in his first play, Bandits, reached its peak, is Schiller's last completed play. Schiller immortalized the legendary Swiss hero Wilhelm Tell, who rebelled against the Austrian governor, and transformed an ordinary hunter into a symbol of independence and patriotism almost everywhere in the world.
