Ibnu Nabate was born in 946 in 'Meyafarqîn', today's Silvan district of Diyarbakır. He gave rare sermons on decency, morality and rhetoric with the consensus of scholars. It is reported that Imam Ghazali delivered the sermons of ibnu Nabate. Imam Zehebi said about him: "Although he has a clear and eloquent language, he is a scholar whose advice and sermons are very useful and beautiful."
Ibn Nabate said in a dream:
Hz. The Prophet (PBUH) called him in the presence of his companions, saying, "Merhebasana, O -xetîbul-xuteba- orator of the orators", and at the end of the sermon I read, he said to me, "You said it very well, come closer to me," and held my face and kissed it. Then he wiped my mouth with his holy saliva and said, 'May God bless you.'
Imam Kindi says: After this dream, Ibn Nabate's face became like a halo of light and he gained much beauty. Additionally, he neither ate nor drank anything for three days after his dream. He had no appetite for anything anyway. His mouth smelled like musk.
When Ibnu Nabate told his dream to the people:
The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) was proud to say that he gave me the name 'xetibul-xuteba'.
