A New Philosophy of Society
Manuel De Landa, a Mexican philosopher, artist, and one of the original thinkers of our age, one of the representatives of new materialism, develops a seminal social ontology in A New Philosophy of Society.
This is a new ontology that does not think of social processes in terms of reified generalities such as "individual" and "society", but also overturns the idea that they occur at two fixed levels, micro and macro. The realistic social ontology defined in the book considers social entities ranging from individuals to huge nation-states as clusters built through historical processes. Although it is based on French philosopher Gilles Deleuze's theory of clustering, this approach includes the basic ideas and concepts of a "new theory of clustering" that examines and expands its difficulties and shortcomings and takes it one step further, allowing to eliminate the flaws of social realism. In addition to Deleuze, the axis of this book includes thinkers such as Max Weber, Fernand Braudel, Michel Foucault, Pierre Bourdieu and Erving Goffman.
A New Philosophy of Society is an original and in-depth analysis of modern society; Most importantly, it is a radical opposition to reductionism, essentialism and reification.
